Roll call is a tradition usually in fighter squadrons that has roots from the first World War.
Back in those days it was common for pilots to get shot down, so at the end of the day the pilots that came back would do a roll call.
This was done to see who made it back.
To lighten the mood, they’d sing songs and try to pass the time any way they could.
”Roll call“即是“點名”-> 稍息立正排排站，喊到名字的請答“在”
通常是戰鬥機中隊的傳統，故事可以追溯至第一次世界大戰。
悲桑小故事：
當時飛行員被敵方擊落是件很頻繁的事，所以在一天結束前，機師們會回到部隊崗位來做一個點名的動作，目的就是看看我們還剩下哪些活下來的機師們。
由於在點名過程中，有些人會為自己的弟兄離開消失而打擊士氣，
為了不要讓氣氛低迷，大家會製造歡樂氣氛而跳舞唱歌 、飲酒作樂而讓點名這個動作可以帶過悲傷情緒。

These days pilots are definitely less likely to be shot down and roll call has evolved.
Simply put it is a time for pilots to have a good time and relax with others while still holding the old traditions.
We already went through some history but now we will get into what events happen in the roll calls today.
This includes:
- Calling roll
- Upgrades
- Instant justice
- Toasts
- Stories
現今，機師當然不會這麼容易被擊落啦！
所以“點名”也進化了。
簡言之，現在的點點名就只是讓機師們輕鬆小品一番，
畢竟他們的工作都特別緊繃但還是保有著舊的傳統。
那現在的點名有哪些重點呢？

Calling Roll 點名
The modern roll call still starts with calling roll for people in the squadron.
This is done by the Mayor who is in charge of leading the roll call.
The mayor is someone who is pretty social and usually well liked by others.
Other pilots typically nominate a mayor for the squadron and their job is to host the roll call and guide the crowd through the crazy events.
The roll call begins with listing out the names of people in the squadron and if they call on you, you have to respond saying you are there.
If someone is not present and doesn’t have a good reason then they will be fined some sort of money or alcohol.
Newcomers or guests are all expected to bring a gift as well, usually alcohol.
One important note is to not be late!
For example if the squadron is numbered the 416th, expect the time for roll call to be at 4:16 P.M.
If you’re late expect to take a shot, but don’t worry since the shots are free.
現在的點名仍然是點那些隸屬於某中隊的各位大名🙋🏻♂️
通常都是由少將(稱Mayor)來主辦這個每1-3個月一次都會辦在週五的點名大會
這少將的角色怎麼產生？
通常都是由較高社交手腕且中隊機師們也會提名由哪位少將去主導這項活動進而選出這場活動代言人。
那點名活動怎麼進行？
基本上都是大聲讀出你的名字，接著你要大聲回答『我在！』
有趣的是，如果有人未到出席也沒有個好理由，這些人就會被罰小錢或罰你喝酒
如果你是416th中隊，你就會被罰4.16美金哈哈哈🤣
你是菜鳥大兵的話，帶一點禮物通常是“按照慣例”的行爲，通常還是酒居多
很重要的一點絕對不能疏忽就是點名活動，千萬不能遲到！
如果你是416th中隊，常常預定“點名”就是訂在4:16PM
如果遲到就是要喝一口烈酒，但烈酒都免錢啦！

Upgrades 生活或工作事有進展
Once the calling of the roll finishes and/or people are fined, the mayor will go over upgrades.
Anyone that goes through any big life or work change is expected to be on this list.
Got an instructor rating as a C-17 instructor? That’s an upgrade.
Qualified flight lead for 2-ship F-15 formation? That’s an upgrade.
Got married? That's an upgrade.
Can you guess the consequence for an upgrade?
Maybe a handshake and a pat on the back.
NO! As usual it will be some form of alcohol.

點完名後，或有人要被罰錢或喝酒結束後，
少將老兄就會開始一一瀏覽每個人的upgrades
任何人經歷了任何人生大事或工作有了改變都會在名單上
得到當上C-17運輸機的教練資格？這是一種upgrades
獲得2艦F-15戰鬥機飛行指揮？這是一種upgrades
結婚了? 這是一種upgrades
可以猜猜這些upgrades被點名的人要做什麼事？
或許握手、然後背後拍兩下以示鼓勵“好棒棒”

Instant Justice 即時正義
Instant justice or “IJ” is a time for playful (with maybe a bit of spite) banter.
Two rules are required for an IJ.
It must be instant.
It must be just.
Pretty simple right?
An IJ is usually a quick complaint about something that someone did or did not do.
Examples:
IJ against Banana for stinking up the bathroom!
IJ against the lieutenants for not making popcorn for the roll call!
When you get an instant justice call on you, the appropriate course of action is to take a shot and be washed away of your crime.
If you try and defend yourself it will be called “quibbling” and you will earn yourself another shot.
Of course the better way to do “defend” yourself is to strike an IJ back at that person.
即時正義或簡稱“IJ”就是大家互嗆的時間啦！你嗆我、我嗆你...
兩個間單的規則:
- 必須要即時的
- 必須要公正的
聽起來簡單又複雜，“IJ” 是對某人做過或未做過的是快速地抱怨了一番。
舉例：
IJ 抗議香蕉會弄臭浴室。
IJ 抗議一位少校沒有為點名活動準備爆米花。
當你被Instant Justice因為以上原因判決了”行為不當“
這時你就自己拿起shot吞了來為自己洗清罪名吧！(的確莫名其妙or躺著也中槍概念)
如果這時你想要為自己辯護，這杯稱作“詭辯”、“謬論”，自動地獲得了第二杯shot!
當然，最好為自己辯護的方式就是自己在發動 IJ 反擊回去。（默默地喝好幾杯shot）

Toasts 乾杯
Casualties are still a part of war and the squadron still honors those that gave the ultimate sacrifice.
Toasts are a way to remember fallen brothers and sisters.
On a lighter note, toasts can also be used to give appreciation for those that went above and beyond their normal job.
傷亡仍然是戰爭的一部分，中隊仍然向那些做出最終犧牲的人致敬。
敬酒是一種記住倒下的兄弟姐妹的方式。
輕鬆一點，敬酒也可以用來讚賞那些超出其正常工作範圍的人。

這些詼諧或出糗故事都會默默地被烙印在腦裡然後在隊上被流傳，
俗話說：『貽笑千古』，哎唷喂，是不是就會這樣一代傳一代？
還有一種故事稱為“即時正義”可以理解成“自以為自己是王道”。
以“ZEUS”為例(zero effort unless supervised)
想要自以為正義的數落這位ZEUS大兵，你會議遲到啦！
這些都是些揶揄簡短的小事，
但被數落的大兵就要喝口shot, 以示負責。

Stories
Every squadron does their roll call a bit different.
And every roll call might be a little bit different too.
But usually all will have funny stories about the people in the squadron.
For many pilots, the more entertaining it is the better.
A bad story said well is better than a good story said poorly.
Because of this many of the stories can be pretty outrageous with the rule being that it only has to be at least 10% true.
”點名“在每個中隊都可能有些許不同的方式進行，
但基本上都會是隊上大兵發生的好笑有趣故事
對於許多飛行員來說，娛樂性越強越好。
不好的故事裝飾後要比不好的故事沒裝飾的要好
因此，許多故事聽起來非常荒謬，反正只要有10％的真實性就可以啦！

Conclusion 結論
Let’s recap what we learned today.
Roll call has its roots from the days of WW I when pilots weren’t sure if they or their wingmen would come back safely.
Today it has transformed itself into an event for camaraderie.
Of course, roll call always starts with taking roll of the members of the squadron.
Remember what time it starts and don’t be late unless you want to start with a shot.
If you had a major life/work event and have been assessed for an upgrade also remember to take a shot.
If you have a complaint about someone or something remember you can make it known with instant justice!
Even though it's rare these days, fallen brothers and sisters will be honored with toasts.
But toasts are also able to be used for individuals who go above and beyond their duty.
And finally you can’t have a roll call without having some stories!
Remember they only have to be 10% true and entertaining.
At the very end the roll call is adjourned and a few songs or sung just like they were back in the old days.
