Overview
The C-17 Globemaster III is a flexible cargo aircraft capable of doing airlift, airdrop, and aeromedical evacuations.
Don’t worry if you’re not familiar with these terms, to put it simply the C-17 carries a lot of stuff far distances.
The bases it operates from in the US Air Force are: Travis AFB, CA; Dover AFB, Delaware, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA; Joint Base Charleston, SC; Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ; Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, AK; Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, HI.

Airlift - transporting supplies or people by aircraft.
This can be split into two different types: strategic and tactical.
Strategic airlift involves moving people and supplies on routine trips across long distances.
Tactical airlift focuses on transporting the same things into a specific location accurately.

This airdrop is actually a type of airlift.
C-17’s can drop supplies while still flying to troops or people in need of certain equipment or supplies.
This is used in humanitarian missions too for food and other helpful supplies.

Unfortunate Accident
On 28 July 2010 while practicing for an airshow in Elmendorf AFB, Alaska, a C-17 crashed killing all four members that were aboard. After the investigation, the safety board deemed pilot error was the cause of the mishap. Pilots and aircrew have a lot to pay attention to when operating an aircraft so it's easy to get overwhelmed. This is called task saturation and engineers are careful to make sure this doesn’t happen easily when designing airplanes. During the practice, the pilot made several dangerous maneuvers that exceeded the limits of the C-17. Because of this the airplane stalled at a height that was unrecoverable. Stalling happens when the wings of an airplane cannot produce the force of lift. I won’t get too much into the physics but the force of lift helps “lift” the aircraft and makes sure it doesn’t fall out of the sky. Unfortunately this is what happened.

2010年7月28日在阿拉斯加的埃爾門多夫空軍基地舉辦飛行表演演習,一架載有4人的C-17墜毀。經國家運輸安全調查委員會調查,機師的失誤被認為是造成此次飛安事件的悲劇。在飛行時,機上飛行人員在駕駛飛機時都需要有相當的專注力, 真的一個不注意就容易不知所措,意外隨即發生。這次事件發生被稱作是所謂的體能飽和,飛機在設計時,工程師會警慎的安全設計飛機,確保飛機本身不會體能操在並能降低意外的發生。在演習中,機師做了幾個危險的操作手法駕使這架飛機,造成機翼無法產生推力,使機身在高處失速,以致達到C-17所能負荷的最高上限。這邊不會多加以贅述物理概念,但特別強調這個推力是幫助“推使”這架飛機的靈魂關鍵耳使之在高空中取得平衡,不幸地是,發生在這架C-17及其機組人員。
